Hair Transplant

Hair transplantat is the application of hair follicles taken from the nape of the neck to the areas of hair loss or thinning.

Hair transplant is the addition of grafts taken from the nape of the neck of people with hair loss or thinning to the areas of hair loss or thinning with special techniques. Today, many people face the problem of hair loss for various reasons. Hair loss can usually be caused by reasons such as unbalanced nutrition, stress or health problems. Especially hair loss called male pattern baldness can seriously disturb people.

Today, there is no medically proven shampoo, serum or medication for the solution of baldness or hair loss. The only and most effective solution to baldness or thinning following hair loss is hair transplant. Hair transplant is a permanent solution and the possibility of hair loss is very low. Many people who use products that claim to be hair growth products, after seeing that these products are ineffective, prefer hair transplant method and get rid of baldness problems permanently.

What are the Methods Used in Hair Transplant?

There are several hair transplant methods according to hair loss types. The most common and accepted methods include FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation). Although the methods used in hair transplant vary according to the hair loss or hair type of the person, the general principle is to transplant the hair follicles taken from the donor area to the lost or thinned areas.

FUE Hair Transplant

FUE hair transplant method is the most preferred method in hair transplant operations. Introduced in 2002 as Follicular Unit Extraction, the FUE method allows hair follicles to be extracted one by one from the nape of the neck of people with baldness and transplanted to the balding area. The ability to collect hair follicles without incisions in the donor area prevents scarring in the area and thus the healing process after the FUE method is faster than other methods.

DHI Hair Transplant

DHI Hair Transplant method is a new hair transplant method used in combination with the FUE technique. Hair follicles collected with the FUE method are transplanted with the DHI method using a special pen. The most prominent feature of this method is that the canal opening process and hair transplant take place at the same time. The fast procedure process increases the success rate and shortens the recovery time. In addition, it allows dense transplants and can be preferred for hair densification as well as hair loss areas. However, if there is complete hair loss and there are not enough hair follicles in the donor area, more intensive transplant may not be possible.

Who Can Have Hair Transplant?

Hair loss is divided into various types. Androgenic type hair loss is a condition caused by hormonal, familial heredity and age. Hair transplant is usually applied to people with this type of hair loss. In addition, hair transplantation can also be applied to people who have bare scalp and eyebrows as a result of scalp burns, who have had hair transplant before but were not satisfied, who have baldness in the front part of the head after facelift operation and who experience female pattern hair loss. It is not necessary to wait for baldness, hair transplantation can be performed when hair loss begins.

Before and After Hair Transplant

The person who plans to have a hair transplant is asked questions about any discomfort or medications under the supervision of a specialist doctor and necessary blood samples are taken and analyses are performed. If the results of the tests show that there is no obstacle for hair transplant, the hair transplant examination is performed. During this examination, the areas to be taken and transplanted are examined and the number of hair follicles to be transplanted is determined.

If the person to undergo hair transplant uses alcohol, he/she should stop alcohol consumption one week before the hair transplant. On the day of hair transplant, the patient's hair is shaved in a way suitable for the transplant and the hair transplant process is started after anaesthesia is applied. Since local anaesthesia is used, the patient is conscious. Hair follicles are taken from the donor area and this process usually takes about 3 hours. After the harvesting process is completed, the patient is given a break of about half an hour for food and other needs.

After the interval, the channels where the hair follicles will be placed are opened in the areas to be transplanted and the hair follicles taken with special tools are placed one by one. This stage usually takes about 3 hours. Thus, the hair transplant procedure can usually take an average of 6 hours in total.

After the hair transplant, the patient is given medicines and shampoos to use. For three days, it is important that the patient does not touch water or any other substance to the transplanted area and maintain the lying position on the back. On the third day, the patient should wash the transplanted area with a special shampoo prescribed by the specialists. After one week, the patient can usually return to normal working life and the doctor will give information about the points to be considered for one month. The complete growth of the transplanted hair can vary between 8 and 12 months depending on the person..

Things to Consider in Hair Transplant!

It should not be forgotten that hair transplant is a surgical procedure and this procedure should be performed under the supervision of a doctor and in a hospital environment. Hair transplant should be avoided in places often called 'under the stairs' without the necessary tests. Hair transplant performed in such places may put your health and donor hair at risk. The instruments and products used during hair transplant are generally disposable and are disposed of in medical waste containers after the procedure. Any instrument or product used by someone else can lead to serious health problems. To avoid such problems, we recommend that you have hair transplant in a well-equipped hospital, by specialised doctors and teams with a certificate of competence.

DHI Technique
DHI Technique
DHI technique means "Direct Hair Transplant". What does the DHI technique consist of? The DHI technique is a FUE method because extraction is basically done by removing the follicles in the same way. The difference is that when transplanting with DHI, the placement of the graft is done directly with an implant without the need to drill a hole for its location. A type of cannula or hollow needle is used where the follicle has previously accumulated and is then fixed directly to the desired location to obtain the angle of the hair. The DHI method naturally has advantages and disadvantages over the FUE method. Advantages of DHI - Reduction of the duration of follicles outside the body makes it more durable. - Less bleeding during transplantation in the planting area. - Possibility to obtain more follicle density in different areas. - Since the techniques are a bit more complicated than the FUE method, more knowledgeable doctors and more specialized equipment are needed. - Possibility of performing without having to shave the head. Disadvantages of DHI technique -This process takes longer; Approximately 2500 grafts per day are performed in one or two sessions.
Telogen Effluvium
Telogen Effluvium
Telogen effluvium occurs when a sudden severe shock or stress causes hair loss. A sudden serious event or stressful situation can cause the hair to stop growing and enter the resting stage. The hair remains in the resting state for about 3 months when large amounts of hair fall off. The affected person has often recovered from the original event when the hair falls off. In most cases, the hair grows back, but in some cases the hair does not recover until the underlying event is investigated. Telogen effluvium seems to affect more women than men because the reasons are often related to events in women's lives eg. childbirth.Telogen Effluvium may have the following causes:Hormonal changesInfection of the scalpOperation or chronic diseaseSerious mental stressMedicationHormonal changes:There are several reasons for hormone changes and many of these can contribute to hair loss eg.Hair loss after childbirth:It is common for women to have a thinning of the hair about 3 months after the baby is born. It is a sign of the rapid change in hormone levels in the body after childbirth. There are statistics showing that 20% of women lose hair after receiving children, other figures show up to 45%. Fortunately, the hair grows back within 9-12 months after giving birth. Many women feel that their hair is healthier and stronger during pregnancy. The reason for this is the elevated levels of estrogen and progesterone which cause more hairs than usual to remain in the plant phase. When the baby is born and the hormones return to normal levels, the hairs that remain in the plant stage begin to enter the resting phase and then fall off after about 3 months.Hair loss due to Pill:Contraceptive pills make the hormone level in the body change and these changes can affect hair growth. In some cases, hair loss can be caused by the male sex hormone contained in some birth control pills. This type of hair loss is similar to androgenetic alopecia. To stop taking birth control pills can have the same effect on hair as to give birth to children because of the similar change in hormone levels.Hair loss due to dysfunction of the thyroid gland:The first test a doctor does when a patient shows signs of hair loss is to check the function of the thyroid gland. Two types of thyroid problems can occur and both can cause hair loss. One problem is hypothyroidism (underproduction of thyroxine) and the other is hyperthyroidism (overproduction of thyroxine).Hair loss can be a symptom in both cases, in some cases it is mild and in other cases difficult. In both cases, the hair returns to normal when proper treatment has been completed. Contact your doctor immediately if you suspect that you have thyroid problems.Scalp infections:Infections such as ringworm can lead to hair loss. When the infection is treated, the hair generally grows back.Operation / chronic disease:The shock after a major surgery can cause hair loss. A skin graft almost always means that hair falls out. Hair drops fall out but grow back from the transplanted skin cell. Some cancer treatments cause the hair cells to stop dividing. Hair blisters become thin and break off as they grow. This happens 1-3 weeks after treatment but the hair grows back when treatment is finished."Serious mental stress":Some people suffer from telogen effluvium, i.e. sudden general thinning of the hair after a traumatic event e.g. a death, an accident, assault or other serious mental stress. The hair follicles then go to rest for early and hair loss occurs about 3 months after the event in question. When circumstances change for the better, the hair generally grows back.Weight loss / nutrition / protein deficiency:People who lose weight using low-protein diets or have very restrictive diets for other reasons may lack protein. The body then tries to save on protein by getting hairs to change from plant phase to rest phase. Two to three months later, a lot of hair falls off. This type of hair loss is avoided by at all times maintaining adequate protein intake.Medication:Some prescription medications can cause temporary hair loss, eg. medicines for gout, rheumatism, depression, heart problems, high blood pressure or blood thinners. High doses of vitamin A can also cause hair loss. Here is a list of drugs reported having a negative effect on hair growth:Allopurinol (against gout)Heparin (blood thinning)Coumarin (blood thinning)Clofibrate (cholesterol lowering)Gemfibrozil (cholesterol lowering)Above are some of the medications reported to contribute to hair loss. If you suspect that a prescription medication you are taking is the reason you lose hair, discuss this with your doctor.
Androgenetic Alopecia
Androgenetic Alopecia
Androgenetic alopecia is what we call everyday alopecia. When it is related to hormones (androgens) and heredity (genetics) it is androgenetic - baldness. Men typically lose their hair in the hairline in the forehead and upside down. Women generally lose their hair evenly over their heads.
Traction Alopecia
Traction Alopecia
Traction alopecia is generally the result of different kinds of hair removal. Hard-bound hair in ponytail, knot or braids falls off gradually. If this type of milling is going on for a long time, hair loss can become permanent but generally the hair grows back as soon as it is no longer drawn or tied too tightly.
